The coolest classroom on ice! Students from around the world try curling

A group of new Canadians tries the sport of curling for the first time.

March 6, 2026

For a group of students new to Canada, it was an opportunity to leave the classroom for the curling sheet.

Twenty-five students representing 11 different countries visited the curling club on March 6, 2026 – and for many, it was the first time trying the sport!

Speaking at least nine different languages, the group quickly discovered that sport can be a powerful universal language.

Guided by members of the St. Peter Catholic Secondary School boys and girls curling teams, students learned the basics of the sport, from sliding a stone down the ice to sweeping with purpose.

The experienced student-athletes served as patient mentors throughout the day, helping their peers build confidence while having fun on the ice.

The event was organized by Coach Lynne Milette-Carroll, whose planning ensured a welcoming and engaging introduction to curling for the newcomers.
