Students at St. Thomas Aquinas CSS participate in Canopy Project with 50 trees planted
On Oct. 15, students at St. Thomas Aquinas CSS planted 50 sugar maple trees on school property in partnership with the Kawartha Lakes Canopy Project. Working with a local supplier, those involved worked with the supplied trees, wire, mesh and mulch.
What began as a simple initiative to increase the urban canopy within public spaces in Kawartha Lakes has blossomed into a student-centred cause that deepens their connection to nature. The Canopy Project has evolved into a remarkable project that has empowered youth throughout the region to make a positive change. Last year, students at St. Mary CES in Lindsay participated in the same project and were recipients of the CKL Environmental Hero of the Year Award.
