PVNC Board selects new trustee to fill Peterborough County vacancy

Trustee Jenny Leahy

The Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington (PVNC) Catholic District School Board has selected a new trustee to fill a temporary vacancy on the board leading up to the October 2022 municipal election.

The board of trustees selected Selwyn Township resident Jenny Leahy to fill the trustee vacancy following a special in-camera Board meeting held Wednesday night (May 25, 2022). Trustees heard presentations from four candidates who applied for the position.

Leahy is a former longtime PVNC employee, who retired in July 2021 after serving 18 years as an administrative assistant in various departments. During that time, Leahy served three directors, two superintendents and supported many departments, portfolios and families of schools. She and her husband Bill have been married for more than 30 years and raised two sons locally, both of whom attended PVNC schools. Leahy is also a dedicated and 32-year member of the Cathedral of St. Peter-in- Chains parish in Peterborough.

“As a former employee, I have been witness to this Board’s commitment to providing students with excellent instruction in an environment that supports equity and diversity, where everyone feels welcome, respected, safe and included,” Leahy said. “As a Catholic school board trustee for the County of Peterborough I will have the opportunity to have meaningful input around the board table to ensure these goals remain a priority. I look forward to working with this team of individuals so dedicated to serving all stakeholders within the Catholic education community.”

The board began advertising for interested trustee candidates in April following the resignation of Peterborough County trustee Emmanuel Pinto at the March 22, 2022 board meeting. This is the second vacancy the Board of Trustees has filled during the 2021-2022 school year.

“It takes courage to put your name forward for any public position and the Board was impressed by the quality of candidates who showed interest in serving Catholic Education in this jurisdiction,” said Braden Leal, PVNC Board Chairperson. “We know Jenny Leahy comes into this position with valuable experience and she is well-positioned to hit the ground running. We look forward to welcoming her at the next Board meeting.”

Leahy will be sworn into her new role at the June 13, 2022 Committee-of-the-Whole Meeting.
