On Thursday, February 26, 2026, students at St. John Paul II Catholic Elementary School were joined by students from St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School for a vibrant French Carnaval.

Organized by Mme Ricker and Ms. Koetstra, with support from Mme Sullivan from St. Thomas Aquinas CSS, this collaborative event brought the excitement of Québec’s Winter Carnival right to the elementary playground.

This student-led tradition transformed the school grounds into a miniature winter wonderland, where secondary school mentors guided younger students through fun, hands-on cultural activities.

The highlight of the day? A special appearance by Bonhomme, the iconic snowman mascot, who led students in cheers and added to the festive spirit.

Le Carnaval is more than just a day of games and laughter. It strengthens connections between the schools, giving secondary school students the chance to showcase their leadership and language skills while inspiring elementary students to see the joy of learning French.
