Last Thursday, (Sept. 11, 2025), St. John Paul II Catholic Elementary School in Lindsay welcomed educator and motivational speaker Jon Hansen for a day of encouragement and inspiration.

Students gathered in the school gym for two assemblies — the first for Kindergarten to Grade 5 students.

Hansen, known for his engaging and uplifting talks with young audiences, tailored his message to meet students where they are in their learning and growth.

For the younger grades, he focused on three powerful affirmations: “You are Smart, You are Strong, and You are Awesome.”

“Whenever you’re sad, for whatever reason, the next time you’re sad, remind yourself of who you really are: you are smart, you are strong and you are awesome. Show them your super power and show them you’re letting your light shine,” Hansen told the students.

He was referring to Matthew 5:16, which states: “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good deeds and give glory to your Father in heaven.”

Throughout his presentation, Hansen used stories, humour, and real-life examples to connect with students in meaningful ways.

He reminded them that believing in themselves is the first step to achieving their goals and making a difference in the world.

“It was a good presentation and very motivational,” said Addison Bibeau, Grade 5 student. “I’m going to be kind to everyone.”

“I learned that even when you’re sad, you’re awesome and strong and should always be kind to others,” added Jackson Squire, Grade 5 student.

In the afternoon, Hansen returned to the gym for a second assembly, this time geared toward the older students of St. John Paul II CES.
