Everyday Heroes: Mike Bressette, Sherri Slade-Brady, and Arwen Peeling

EH May 26

We are honoured to present this week’s Everyday Heroes for the 2022/23 school year.

Every week we celebrate PVNC staff members who have been recognized by a parent, student or colleague as an Everyday Hero. Every school and every department in our Board has an Everyday Hero who expresses their kindness, courage and love through simple, ordinary actions that uplift the lives of the people around them and the students we serve. An Everyday Hero is a caring adult, an empathetic colleague, somebody who simply makes going to work each day worthwhile.

This week we are celebrating Mike Bressette, Sherri Slade-Brady, and Arwen Peeling.

Mike Bressette

mike Bressette EH Mike is a custodian at Holy Trinity CSS. Mike was nominated by a colleague, who said:

“Mike is the most helpful and caring custodian that I have had the pleasure of working with. Always has a positive attitude and is very accommodating when needed. I have known Mike for the last 20 or more years and he deserves this nomination by far.

Mike is one of those people who you could spend endless time talking to, laughing with – he is quick witted, articulates well, has opinions he is willing to share and defend, has a fantastic sense of humour and a ready laugh, he does his job respectfully and well … he is an all-round good guy.”

Sherri Slade-Brady

Sherri EH
Sherri is an vice-principal at St. Mary CSS. Sherri was nominated by a colleague, who said:

“Sherri is a welcoming and supportive person at SMCSS. When you walk into her office, she is always saying “How can I help” or “Do you need me to do___”? She goes above and beyond for the staff, students, and families at SMCSS. She creates a sense of importance and belonging for everyone in the building, especially some of our most at risk and vulnerable students. Her smile, positivity and presence is very much appreciated daily. She is a blessing to our school and community. Thank you, Sherri, for being a ray of sunshine at SMCSS- you make even the dullest of days more bright for everyone. ”

Arwen Peeling

Arwen EH
Arwen is a learning commons specialist at St. Elizabeth CES. Arwen was nominated by a colleague, who said:

Arwen, our Learning Commons Specialist, is one of the hardest working staff members at St. Elizabeth. She not only has a full schedule of classes that visit the Learning Commons every week, she also organizes the technology for a school population of over 750 students. Arwen runs the school’s games club during lunch. She helps sort popcorn that we sell as a part of fundraising efforts. She not only reads to the students but incorporates different, fun activities during her periods. She finds games and interactive activities for the younger grades. She organizes STEM activities and coding for the junior classes. Arwen is the go-to person for both staff and students for all technology issues. She will stop what she is working on and instantly try to help. If she notices that someone hasn’t come to the library for their last recess break, she will pop into the classroom to see if they need some support. She is a very kind-hearted and generous person who rarely takes time for herself. She is always willing to listen to the problems and worries of others. Thank you Arwen!

We would like to thank Mike, Sherri, and Arwen for their commitment to creating a culture of faith, hope and love to ensure equity and well-being at our board.
