Community: Municipality of Clarington | Years of Service: Seven years
As part of our new Trustee Spotlight series, we are introducing you to the dedicated leaders who serve on the PVNC Catholic Board of Trustees. Trustees play a vital role in guiding Catholic education, advocating for students and families, and strengthening connections with our school communities. Each month, we’ll feature one trustee to share their story, experiences, and what inspires them in this important work.
Why did you choose to become a trustee?
I became Catholic in 2016 and I had a desire to give back to both my community and my faith. My wife Daniela and I are PVNC Catholic parents to two kids in Grades 8 and 11 and I am the only current Trustee that has children attending school at PVNC Catholic. I felt strongly this gave me a unique perspective when speaking with other PVNC Catholic parents and at the Board table. In 2016, I wrote an Amazon Canada bestselling book on motivation which solidified that I was up to the challenge to serve my community. Finally, I have been in sales and customer service for 30 years. Helping people solve problems is part of my DNA.
What have you found most rewarding about serving your school communities?
Giving back. When I see the results of my hard work through the successes of the students, it brings me great joy. When parents speak to me about an issue I feel great knowing I have done everything I can to help them. I am their voice at the Board table and I never take that for granted and go into every meeting with the desire to help.
What has been a memorable or proud moment during your time as a PVNC Catholic trustee?
It would have to be the overcrowding at St. Elizabeth Catholic Elementary School in Bowmanville. It was my idea to create the St. Elizabeth CES Grade 7/8 annex located at St. Stephen Catholic Secondary School to take some pressure off St. Elizabeth CES. However, that was a band-aid solution. Bowmanville desperately needed another school. I am very proud to have successfully advocated for the yet-to-be named new school in the Northglen area of Bowmanville scheduled to open in fall 2026. It will be PVNC Catholic’s first new school since 2008.
What do you love most about the specific community you serve?
My wife and I moved to Clarington in 2005 and instantly fell in love with the community. We have made a family here and a wonderful life. We attend St. Therese Catholic Church in Courtice where I am also their Chairperson of the finance committee. I love giving back to my community. I love visiting the schools and speaking with the staff, students, and their families to listen to their victories and their concerns.
Tell us one fun or surprising fact about yourself.
How about two? I worked in the pet industry for 25 years so I have kept my share of poisonous animals and a caiman (similar to an alligator) back when I was younger. I am also a ‘metal head’ and still enjoy the heavy metal bands of my youth.
