St. Peter CSS grad earns prestigious Schulich Leader Scholarship for Science, Technology and Mathematics
June 18, 2021,
Congratulations to Grade 12 St. Peter Catholic Secondary School student Sandra Taskovic who has received the prestigious Schulich Leader Scholarship for Science, Technology and Mathematics valued at $80,000.
Taskovic, a competitive tennis player, coach and a local advocate for tennis facilities in Peterborough, will be attending the University of Alberta to study computer science. She has also earned a spot on the university’s varsity women’s tennis team, which is ranked #1 in Canada.
At St. Peter CSS, Taskovic has played an active role on student council and was elected as a school board Student Liaison during grades 11 and 12. During that time, she was part of a group of student leaders who successfully advocated to make environmental sustainability a Board priority.
“These were engaging experiences where I could make several direct contributions to my school and school board community,” she said. “As a liaison, I had the honour of representing student voices at my school and across the board.”
St. Peter CSS principal Shannon Brady praised Taskovic for her “numerous contributions to our school and greater community.”
“On behalf of the SPCSS community, I want to congratulate Sandra on being a recipient of the Schulich Leader Scholarship,” Brady said. “Over her time here, Sandra has mastered the ability to balance outstanding academic achievement, athletics and co-curricular activities. We wish Sandra all the best as she studies at the University of Alberta in the Honours Computer Science Program.”
