Retired PVNC director and superintendents honoured for service to Catholic Education
May 2, 2022,
The Ontario Catholic Supervisory Officers’ Association (OCSOA) had an opportunity to gather and celebrate retirees in person for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic during its AGM and Conference on April 28.
That meant some familiar faces from the Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington (PVNC) Catholic District School Board were honoured for their years of service to Catholic Education, including retired Director of Education Michael Nasello and retired superintendents Dawn Michie and Tim Moloney.
Nasello retired in early 2021, having led the board through the ups and downs of the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. Nasello was hired as Director of Education in 2016. He had previously served as a superintendent at the York Catholic District School Board. During his time as Director, Nasello led the renewal of the Board’s Strategic Priorities for 2017-2020.
Nasello was committed to building and strengthening relationships between the Board and the communities it serves, most notably with local First Nations, Metis and Inuit communities and leaders, school-home-parish connections and the Board’s ongoing relationships with the Diocese of Peterborough, community partners and parents.
Michie retired from PVNC in March 2020 after 22 years of service with the Board. She began her career at PVNC as a teacher-librarian before serving in five schools as a vice-principal and principal, in both the elementary and secondary panels, before joining the Senior Administration team in 2013 as a superintendent.
Moloney began his 31-year career as an elementary classroom teacher before beginning his role as an administrator. Tim served in principal roles from 2003 to 2013 before joining the PVNC senior team as a superintendent until his retirement in October 2021. When the COVID pandemic struck in March 2020, Moloney was tapped to serve the role as the Board’s first ever COVID lead, which he undertook for 18 months up until his retirement.
In addition to recognizing retired supervisory officers, OCSOA celebrated the commissioning of supervisory officers hired into new roles over the past two years, including PVNC superintendents Steve O’Sullivan, Jeannie Armstrong, Jonathan Di Ianni, Sheila Piggott and Julie Selby.
