At St. Mother Teresa Catholic Elementary School in Courtice, one very special Kindergarten tradition continues to bring smiles, laughter, and learning together year after year.

On May 1, the Kindergarten classes gathered to celebrate the “marriage” of the letters Q and U — a playful literacy tradition that has become a beloved annual event within the school community. Students marked the occasion with a joyful ceremony followed by a wedding reception complete with dancing and treats.

The creative idea began eight years ago when Teacher Christine Berube was planning a lesson focused on the letter Q. Since then, the celebration has grown into a memorable springtime tradition that students continue to talk about long after they leave Kindergarten.

By turning literacy learning into an engaging and imaginative experience, the Q & U wedding helps students remember the special partnership between the two letters while creating lasting memories along the way.
