Exploring, Discovering, Protecting: PVNC Catholic students take part in 16th annual Environmental Symposium
Oct. 7, 2025
Students from schools in Peterborough, City and County, and the City of Kawartha Lakes gathered at Beavermead Park and Ecology Park in Peterborough on Friday (Oct. 3, 2025), for the 16th Annual Environmental Symposium — a day dedicated to deepening environmental awareness and action for sustainability and stewardship.
Hosted in partnership with Camp Kawartha, Ecology Park, Otonabee Conservation, and educator Matt Levac, the annual symposium offered a full day of outdoor, hands-on learning experiences designed for primary through senior students
Each group participated in two interactive sessions focused on environmental science, Indigenous education, and the interconnectedness of all living things.
From studying critters and plants to testing water quality and learning traditional Indigenous games, students explored the natural world through curiosity and collaboration.
Senior students took part in on-the-land programming with Matt Levac, where they discovered how humans and plants are connected within the ecosystem, while younger learners got creative through games and activities focused on adaptation, biodiversity, and teamwork.
Another Environmental Symposium, for students at schools in Northumberland County and Clarington, will take place on Nov. 5, 2025.
