Music club strikes a chord at St. Joseph CES in Cobourg
Dec. 18, 2025
What began as a small music club at St. Joseph Catholic Elementary School in Cobourg has quickly grown into a thriving concert band, giving students a new and meaningful way to explore their talents.
St. Joseph CES is home to 186 students across eight classrooms. With the support of borrowed instruments, the school’s French teacher Charles Glasspool launched the club in hopes of introducing students to instrumental music. The response was overwhelming. Today, nearly 40 students are part of the concert band.
The band has created an inclusive extracurricular opportunity, particularly for students who may not have previously participated in school sports or clubs. Students proudly wore matching band T-shirts, generously funded by the Catholic School Council, during their recent concerts, marking a memorable milestone for the group.
The success of the concert band has truly been a team effort. Several staff members have volunteered their time during lunch hours and recesses to help students learn new instruments, fostering both musical skills and a strong sense of community.
