Lest We Forget: PVNC Catholic schools observe Remembrance Day
Nov. 11, 2025
Students across the Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington (PVNC) Catholic District School Board paused to honour the sacrifices of Canadian veterans through meaningful Remembrance Day ceremonies held in school gymnasiums, at cenotaphs, and in local cemeteries.
At St. Patrick Catholic Elementary School in Peterborough, Grade 8 students walked to the nearby Highland Park Cemetery to take part in the No Stone Left Alone program. Students placed poppies and Canadian flags on the gravestones of those who served our country.
“It was so important for me because they’ve given our country peace,” said Charlotte Russell, Grade 8 student.
“It’s a way for us to remind ourselves who fought for us and gave us our freedom,” added Bella Brooks, Grade 8 student. “It was great to give respect to them.”
At St. Catherine Catholic Elementary School, students gathered for a Remembrance Day assembly that also included a tribute to Indigenous Veterans Day (Nov. 8). A slideshow honouring students’ family members who are veterans was shared at the conclusion of the assembly.
“They sacrificed their lives for our freedom and peace,” said Oliver Burd, Grade 5 student.
“It’s important to observe Indigenous Veterans Day to honour what soldiers have done for us,” said Lola Messina, Grade 8 student.
“This is a day to remember those who fought for us in the First and Second World Wars, like my great-great-grandpa who died in the Second World War,” said Nolan Hobbs, Grade 2 student.
At St. Paul Catholic Elementary School, students came together for a school-wide assembly to mark Remembrance Day and to reflect on the courage and selflessness of those who served.
Across PVNC Catholic schools, students and staff joined together in gratitude and remembrance — ensuring that the stories of service and sacrifice are never forgotten.
