Labour Update: CUPE Strike Action

PVNC Board Logo

Nov. 4, 2022

Regrettably, we enter the weekend having to prepare for more potential school closures next week.

We understand that CUPE, the union representing support workers in our schools, may continue to withdraw their services to our schools throughout next week.

As we cannot safely operate schools without CUPE staff, all schools in the Peterborough  Victoria Northumberland and Clarington (PVNC) Catholic District School Board will remain closed to in-person learning on Monday, Nov. 7, 2022 and until further notice, and all students will continue to learn remotely from home.

Classroom teachers will transition on Monday to synchronous learning. This is learning that takes place with the teacher in real time using a variety of communication tools.

Schools have begun the process of deploying technology to those who require it. If your child requires technology and has yet to receive a device, please contact your child’s school to arrange pickup.

The Board is re-launching our dedicated helpdesk phone number and email for students and parents/guardians who require tech support for remote learning. The helpdesk phone will be staffed from 8:30 a.m. to noon and 12:30 to 4 p.m. during the school day. Service will begin Monday morning.

The helpdesk can be reached at 705-748-4861 (or toll-free at 1-800-461-8009) at extension at 1218 or via email at: [email protected]

This remains a dynamic situation. If there is a resolution to this labour issue up to and including early Monday morning, we will communicate directly with families. We ask families to check their email regularly over the weekend and to follow labour developments in the media.
