UPDATED: St. Peter students/staff cleared to attend class after negative COVID-19 result
Oct. 5, 2020
As an update to last week’s communication notifying the public that an individual at St. Peter Catholic Secondary School had received an inconclusive test result for COVID-19, we are happy to report that the individual has been retested and has tested negative for COVID-19.
As a result, Peterborough Public Health has informed the school that all students and staff who were asked to stay at home and self-isolate have permission to return to school starting Monday, Oct. 5, 2020.
We continue to ask all staff and students to self-monitor daily for signs and symptoms of COVID-19, which includes completing the daily self assessment for symptoms, which is available at: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/
Symptoms include: fever, new onset of cough, worsening chronic cough, difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, sore throat, difficulty swallowing, decrease or loss of sense of taste or smell, chills, headaches, unexplained fatigue/muscle aches, nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, or runny nose/nasal congestion without other known cause.
If you or your child develop one or more of these symptoms, please immediately self-isolate at home and seek testing: https://www.prhc.on.ca/about-us/covid-19-novel-coronavirus/

The following letter was sent to the St. Peter Catholic Secondary School Community, informing students, families and staff that an individual at the school received an inconclusive test result for COVID-19.
Dear parents, guardians and staff,
We have been notified today by Peterborough Public Health that an individual at St. Peter Catholic Secondary School received an inconclusive test result for COVID-19. That individual will remain at home until the health unit advises they may return to school.
An inconclusive test means Peterborough Public Health can’t rule out the possibility that the individual has a case of COVID-19. As such, out of an abundance of caution, Peterborough Public Health is treating this as a probable case.
As always, the health and wellbeing of our students and staff remain our top priority. We are working closely with the health unit to identify those who will be required to stay home and self-isolate. Those students and their families will receive a direct letter and call from the school advising them as to any next steps they must take.
Staff and students who are not directly contacted should continue to attend school, which will remain open, but are asked to self-monitor for signs and symptoms of COVID-19, which includes completing the daily self assessment for symptoms, which is available at: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/
Symptoms include: fever, new onset of cough, worsening chronic cough, difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, sore throat, difficulty swallowing, decrease or loss of sense of taste or smell, chills, headaches, unexplained fatigue/muscle aches, nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, pink eye (conjunctivitis), or runny nose/nasal congestion without other known cause.
If you or your child develop one or more of these symptoms, please immediately self-isolate at home and seek testing: https://www.prhc.on.ca/about-us/covid-19-novel-coronavirus/
As always, please remember to inform us if your child will be absent from school.
We will continue to follow all health precautions at the school, including thorough cleaning and disinfecting of all areas; frequent and proper handwashing by everyone in the building; wearing masks; maintaining physical distancing to the fullest extent possible, and following any other steps directed by the health unit.
We will continue to let families know about any further developments. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
Stay well.
Sincerely,
Shannon Brady
St. Peter Principal
