Grade 11 student Savanna Dyck wins Durham’s Best Singer 2019 Competition

Savanna Dyck, a Grade 11 student at Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School in Courtice, has been named Durham’s Best Singer 2019.

Durham’s Best Singing Competition wrapped up in May with a sold out finale with young singers from across Durham Region. Savanna was among 12 finalists who faced off at the Renaissance Baptist Church in Brooklyn.

Savanna has been a vocal music student at Holy Trinity CSS since 2017, and she is an active member of the Holy Trinity Harmonix singing group. She is thankful for the mentorship of her teacher Lisa Heitzner, and she also credits her singing coach Roberta Michele for her growth as a professional singer over the past two years.

When asked about her inspiration Savanna says, “My mother sang professionally when she was younger, and she always sang me to sleep as a child. Music and singing have always been an important part of my life. Music inspires people and brings joy to their lives.”

Currently, Savanna’s original composition “Pressure” is available on Spotify and Apple Music. In the future she looks forward to writing more songs, and eventually recording her own album.
