Holy Trinity CSS business market raises $1,632 for Grandview Kids
On Dec. 6, Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School ran its third annual HT Christmas Business Market, raising over $1,600 for Grandview Kids Foundation, a Children’s Treatment Centre in Durham Region, providing specialized programs, outpatient clinical treatment and support to thousands of children and youth with physical, communication and developmental needs and their families.
The Grade 9 and 10 Business class spearheaded this project under the leadership of their teacher Marisa Dametto. Students embraced their entrepreneurial spirit by offering services and products for sale. This event is a great tradition at Holy Trinity CSS and a wonderful experience for business students to learn the principles of sales and product production, marketing and development.
“A large focus of this assignment is for students to realize their potential and the impact they can have on their community,” Dametto said. “Our students have applied their knowledge of fundamental business and entrepreneurship skills with a commitment to social responsibility and living the Catholic Graduate Expectations in all of their endeavours.”
Students voted to support Grandview’s Beyond the Walls Campaign, a program created to encourage independence, wellness, improved mental health, community involvement, joy and resilience in neurodivergent adolescents (who may have Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or similar neurodevelopmental disorders). The focus of this program is to create capacity within the neurodivergent youth population to become more independent and have a safe place to learn how to utilize social strategies in everyday community activities.
