Holy Family CES celebrates Black History Month with Gallery Walk
Mar. 2, 2026
Throughout the month of February, students at Holy Family Catholic Elementary School in Bowmanville engaged in a variety of classroom and school-wide activities in celebration of Black History Month.
Last month’s learning culminated in the creation of a gallery walk in the school’s Learning Commons.
The gallery was inspired by guest speaker Nadine Williams, who encouraged the Holy Family CES community to celebrate Black brilliance — a call that resonated deeply with students and staff alike.
Carly Engelbert, Grade 5 teacher and Equity Lead, expressed her pride in the school community’s efforts.
“I’m so proud of the work of our Equity Team, and proud of all the students at Holy Family, who helped us celebrate Black History Month. The works on display were beautiful and inspiring.”
All students and members of the community were invited to visit the gallery.
Tours were led by members of the Holy Family CES Equity Team, including Alani, Onyeka, Mattius, Arujan, Sophia, Oksana, Ava, Giulietta, Grace, Katherine, and Selinam.
Their leadership helped guide visitors through the displays and share the stories behind the work.
