From Idea to Impact: Holy Cross CSS student scores big for newcomer youth
Mar. 23, 2026
One Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School student is turning passion into purpose and making a real impact along the way.
Eric Persaud-Meraram, a Grade 10 student at Holy Cross CSS, secured a $5,000 grant through the Trent University Make an Impact Microgrant to bring his vision to life: Building Youth Resilience Through Sports.
And he delivered.
Through the project, Eric planned and led three sports-based events designed to support disadvantaged and newcomer youth. One standout event welcomed 33 newcomer youth into the gym, where participants connected, built confidence, and experienced the power of teamwork in a fun, inclusive environment.
Backed by a team of fellow Holy Cross CSS student trainers, Eric didn’t just organize events, he created opportunities for belonging.
His work recently took the spotlight at a conference at Trent University, where he presented his project and its impact. In recognition of his efforts, he earned a micro-credential certificate and logged significant volunteer hours.
Even more impressive? Eric is the youngest participant to complete a project through the Make an Impact Microgrant program.
Now, his project poster is on display at Holy Cross CSS, proudly showcasing both his work and the school’s commitment to student leadership and community impact.
