Everyday Heroes: Julie Doherty, Wendy Thomas, and Jennifer Brown
We are honoured to present this week’s Everyday Heroes for the 2022/23 school year.
Every week we celebrate PVNC staff members who have been recognized by a parent, student or colleague as an Everyday Hero. Every school and every department in our Board has an Everyday Hero who expresses their kindness, courage and love through simple, ordinary actions that uplift the lives of the people around them and the students we serve. An Everyday Hero is a caring adult, an empathetic colleague, somebody who simply makes going to work each day worthwhile.
This week we are celebrating Julie Doherty, Wendy Thomas, and Jennifer Brown.
Julie Doherty
Julie is a Special Education Resource Teacher at St. Paul CES Norwood. Julie was nominated by a colleague, who said:
“Julie is a cornerstone of the St. Paul Norwood community. She spends every moment of her day looking for ways to support students learning and well-being. Julie is also a team player and similar to support students, and will always be there to help a colleague.” |
Wendy Thomas
Wendy is a Teacher at St. Anne CES. Wendy was nominated by a colleague, who said:
“Wendy has a heart bursting with love, empathy and kindness for the environment and those less fortunate. Wendy walks her talk and models for her students. She instills compassion in them. In October I saw rakes and shovels piled up outside her classroom door. Each morning she took her class out to clean up in the neighbourhood. In November, Wendy’s class initiated a school-wide sock drive for shelters and the homeless. Over 150 pairs of socks were collected. One lunch hour I found Wendy sitting outside on the lawn in St. Anne’s Medicine Wheel garden with several of her students. They were braiding sweet grass. Wendy also spends lunch time coaching school teams. This Christmas season, Wendy had a donation box at St. Anne’s Christmas events for YES (Youth Emergency Shelter), which raised $650 AND it was Wendy who spearheaded the staff Secret Santa. Wendy’s passion to support those in need stretches beyond St. Anne. Her generosity spreads out into the community to connect with the homeless. Thank you Wendy for showing students they can “be the change”, by actively participating in activities that make this a more peaceful caring , and empathetic world.” |
Jennifer Brown
Jennifer is a Recruitment Officer at the CEC. Jenn was nominated by a colleague, who said:
“Jenn Brown is a true expert in her field and is always willing to share her knowledge and experiences to help others. She performs her job to the best of her abilities, ensuring respect for all those involved. Jenn is always sure to do whatever she can to support excellence in teaching and learning at our schools. Jenn is warm, friendly, and a pleasure to work with.” |
We would like to thank Julie, Wendy, and Jennifer for their commitment to creating a culture of faith, hope and love to ensure equity and well-being at our board.
