Everyday Heroes: Angela Clarke, Jane Dykman, Breanna Vestby and Shane Alderson

Everyday Hero Banner Feb 15

We are honoured to present this week’s Everyday Heroes for the 2022/23 school year.

Every week we celebrate PVNC staff members who have been recognized by a parent, student or colleague as an Everyday Hero. Every school and every department in our Board has an Everyday Hero who expresses their kindness, courage and love through simple, ordinary actions that uplift the lives of the people around them and the students we serve. An Everyday Hero is a caring adult, an empathetic colleague, somebody who simply makes going to work each day worthwhile.

This week we are celebrating Angela Clarke, Jane Dykman, Breanna Vestby and Shane Alderson.

Angela Clarke

Angela Clarke Angela is a Registered Early Child Educator at St. Francis of Assisi CES. Angela was nominated by a colleague, who said:

“Angela is a fun loving RECE. She goes above and beyond to make her kindergarten students feel loved and accepted everyday. Her daily crafts bring joy and excitement to her students. Her days are often busy and loud but you would never know it by the way she has a calm and patient demeanor about herself. She is always around to lend a hand to other students outside of her classroom including students who may require some first aid attention. Mrs. Clarke is a blessing and a gift to the students and staff at St. Francis of Assisi.”

Jane Dykman

Jane Dykman

“Jane has compassion for the students in mainstream classes as well as CASA and LLS. She is always concerned about children’s health and making sure students eat. In the classroom, she is very engaged with her students and is always striving to learn new ways to help them achieve. Jane is always looking for ways to improve herself and assist wherever she is needed. She is respected co-worker by all staff at Holy Cross. I am honoured to call her my friend.”

Breanne Vestby

Breanne Vestby

“St. Mary Catholic Elementary School In Lindsay is proud to nominate Breanne Vestby for the Everyday Hero Award. Breanne is not only passionate about her work as an educator, but more importantly, she genuinely loves her students. Her presence instantly lights up the room and she provides positive energy that others are naturally inspired by. The level of care and creativity that is injected into her teaching style is unmatched and allows her students to expand beyond the confines of the classroom. She is a light in her students’ lives and is dedicated to creating a safe and nurturing environment here at St. Mary. She may not be able to shape shift or fly, but teaching children is her superpower.”

Shane Alderson

Shane Alderson
Shane is a Teacher at Immaculate Conception CES. Shane was nominated by a colleague, who said:

“Mr. Alderson is a Grade 6 teacher at Immaculate Conception school. He is a hard working individual who comes to work each day with a positive attitude that radiates on to the students. He can always be counted on to make a student smile with his silly jokes and positive attitude. He spends endless recesses running volleyball club and games club and jumping in to help with any extra curricular sports team as the coach or convenor. His volunteering doesn’t stop at the school. He is a very active member at the Immaculate Parish and within the East City community where is always spending his time helping others around him.”

We would like to thank Angela, Jane, Breanna and Shane for their commitment to creating a culture of faith, hope and love to ensure equity and well-being at our board.
