Everyday Heroes: Sasha Cooper, Krista Taylor, and Tracy Powers

Mar. 28, 2025

We are honoured to present this week’s Everyday Heroes for the 2024-2025 school year.

Our everyday heroes are the epitome of compassion, devotion and care, transforming everyday tasks into extraordinary impacts.

Their subtle yet powerful actions not only elevate the experiences of colleagues but also enrich the lives of the students we proudly serve. They are more than just supportive adults or empathetic peers; they are the vibrant pulse of our educational community, profoundly touching the lives of all they encounter.

Our everyday heroes come in all forms, quietly making a difference in our schools and board offices, yet very often they overlook or downplay their own actions.

This week we are celebrating Sasha Cooper, Krista Taylor, and Tracy Powers.

Sasha Cooper

Sasha Cooper Sasha is an Educational Assistant at St. Michael CES in Cobourg.

Sasha was nominated by a colleague, who said:

“When I think about someone who cares very deeply about her students and someone who always goes above and beyond for her students, Sasha immediately comes to mind. She often spends her own time researching activities and options for the students who need support and is always willing to try anything new if it means success for her student. She puts their needs above all. Sasha is an amazing team player and despite the challenges of the day to day of her job, she is always positive and determined to help everyone around her. Sasha definitely makes a positive impact on those lucky enough to work with her. She is worthy of the title of Everyday Hero for sure! “

Krista Taylor

Krista Taylor Krista is an Autism Spectrum Disorder Worker (ASDW) at Holy Cross CSS in Peterborough.

Krista was nominated by a colleague, who said:

I would like to nominate Krista Taylor as an Everyday Hero for her unwavering dedication and passion in her role as an ASDW. Krista’s commitment to her students goes beyond just fulfilling her responsibilities—she demonstrates genuine compassion and advocacy in every aspect of her work. Her students thrive under her care because she understands their needs, advocates for their well-being, and provides them with a safe, supportive environment where they can succeed.

Krista is also an exceptional team leader. Her positive energy and collaborative spirit create a work environment where her colleagues feel valued and supported. She is always the person you can count on for a smile, a laugh, and, most importantly, leadership in tough moments. She brings out the best in everyone around her, whether it’s through her thoughtful guidance or her infectious sense of humour.

Krista Taylor exemplifies the true essence of an Everyday Hero. Her hard work, compassion, and leadership deserve to be recognized and celebrated.”

Tracy Powers

Tracy Powers Tracy is a Teacher at Holy Family CES in Bowmanville.

Tracy was nominated by a colleague, who said:

“As a teacher, Tracy embodies the essence of what it means to be a hero every single day.

Tracy goes above and beyond her duties as an educator, tirelessly dedicating herself to her students’ success and well-being. Her unwavering commitment to fostering a positive learning environment is evident in the way she connects with each student, understanding their unique strengths, challenges, and interests.

Not only does Tracy excel in teaching academics, but she also serves as a mentor, guiding her students through life’s ups and downs with empathy and understanding. She creates a safe space where students feel valued, respected, and empowered to reach their full potential.

Tracy’s impact extends far beyond the walls of the school. She instills values of compassion, kindness, and resilience in her students, shaping them into compassionate individuals who will undoubtedly make positive contributions to society.

In recognition of her outstanding dedication and service, I wholeheartedly nominate Mrs. Tracy Powers for the Everyday Hero Award. She is a true beacon of light, and her influence will continue to resonate for years to come!”

We would like to thank Sasha, Krista, and Tracy for their commitment to creating a culture of faith, hope and love to ensure equity and well-being at our board.
