Staff and students collected items for about three weeks to support the one day clothing drive

In a display of community spirit and social responsibility, Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School in Courtice held its first Clothing for a Cause event, a collaborative effort between the Chaplaincy and Religion departments.

The event, which took place at the school on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2024 raised awareness about youth homelessness while promoting sustainability through recycling and reusing clothing.

Over the course of three weeks, students and staff were encouraged to bring in gently used clothing donations to support the cause which culminated in a school-wide clothing swap.

In all, 27 bags of clothing, seven boxes of baby clothes, four bags of jackets and outerwear, one bag of accessories and one bag of shoes were collected.

Students and staff rotated through the ‘market’ and took whatever they wished to use for their own purposes.

Any items leftover at the end of the event were donated to St. Vincent’s Durham Outlook for the Needy, and Rose of Durham.

Grade 12 students in Religion classes supervised this event and received credit towards their Catholic Leadership Medal.
