Grade 7 and 8 students from six PVNC Catholic elementary schools recently took part in an exciting series of Skilled Trades Days at Fleming College.

Over the course of six separate visits, students stepped into a college environment and experienced hands-on learning in a variety of skilled trades.

These engaging, interactive sessions gave students the opportunity to try practical skills, work with tools and materials, and collaborate with their peers while exploring real-world career pathways.

A standout moment from the experience was the chair-building activity, where students designed and constructed their own chairs. The pride was evident as they sat in and reflected on their finished work—an authentic example of learning through doing and seeing the results of their effort come to life.

Opportunities like these are an important part of helping students discover their strengths and interests early.

By connecting classroom learning to real-world applications, Skilled Trades Days encourage curiosity, confidence, and an awareness of the many pathways available after elementary school, including the growing world of skilled trades.
