Play Ball! – PVNC Catholic schools team up for Jays All-Star Day
June 5, 2026
On Wednesday, June 3, St. Mary Catholic Elementary School in Campbellford welcomed students from St. Paul Catholic Elementary School in Lakefield and St. Joseph Catholic Elementary School in Douro for an exciting Jays All-Star Day celebration.
At the ball diamond on County Road 38, just outside of Campbellford, students came together for a day of baseball, physical activity, friendship, and community-building as part of the Jays Care Girls at Bat and RBI programs.
The day began with opening ceremonies that included prayer, safety reminders, stretching and movement activities, mindfulness exercises, music, and team-building games. Students then had the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities designed to promote cooperation, confidence, and fun.
Throughout the day, students rotated through baseball-focused skill stations, including batting, throwing, fielding, and agility challenges, while also taking part in interactive activities such as Connect 4, beanbag toss, colouring stations, chalk art, and Spikeball. Friendly baseball games between the participating schools gave students the opportunity to put their skills into action while cheering on their peers.
Students also enjoyed a BBQ lunch and a visit from the local fire department, which provided a welcome opportunity to cool off on a warm day.
One of the highlights of the event was the strong sense of community that developed among students from the three schools. Throughout the day, participants encouraged one another, celebrated successes, learned new skills, and formed new friendships both on and off the field.
The celebration concluded with closing ceremonies recognizing all participants for their enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and teamwork. Students also received Blue Jays hats to commemorate the experience before gathering for school photos and heading home.
Jays Care, the charitable arm of the Toronto Blue Jays, provides participating schools with all the equipment needed to run the program at no cost. Schools receive baseball gloves, bats, balls, helmets, tees, bases, and other equipment, while students and coaches are also provided with Blue Jays hats and t-shirts.
The Girls at Bat and RBI programs help students build confidence, develop leadership skills, stay active, and experience the benefits of teamwork through sport in a welcoming and inclusive environment.
