PVNC Statement on Ontario Return to School Guidance

Aug. 3, 2021,

Today the Ministry of Education released its guidance on the return to school that will guide our safe return to in-person learning for the upcoming school year.

We are excited to welcome students and staff back to in-person learning this September and continue to provide remote learning for students who have opted for virtual school.

While elements of the COVID-19 protocols that have been in place over the past year will continue in schools including daily screening, cohorting, masking in doors and physical distancing, we look forward to the return to many normal school activities such as school assemblies, extracurricular sports, school clubs, music programs, field trips and overnight excursions.

Over the summer months, we continue to focus on optimizing air quality in schools and classrooms,  making improvements at specific schools such as replacing older portables and replacing or upgrading HVAC systems and installing HEPA units in classroom spaces that have either partial or no mechanical ventilation to improve air quality.

We will share a more comprehensive COVID-19 update for staff and families in the days ahead. In the meantime, we encourage families to see the provincial guidance at: www.ontario.ca/document/covid-19-health-safety-and-operational-guidance-schools-2021-2022

We continue to encourage all eligible students (12 years and older) to get vaccinated. For more information about the COVID-19 vaccine and to book an appointment, please visit: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/covid-19-vaccines-ontario. Vaccines are safe, effective and the best way to protect yourself, your child and your family from COVID-19.

Sincerely,

Joan Carragher
