Community: City of Kawartha Lakes | Years of Service: Three years

As part of our new Trustee Spotlight series, we are introducing you to the dedicated leaders who serve on the PVNC Catholic Board of Trustees. Trustees play a vital role in guiding Catholic education, advocating for students and families, and strengthening connections with our school communities. Each month, we’ll feature one trustee to share their story, experiences, and what inspires them in this important work.

Why did you choose to become a trustee?
Having served as a Catholic Trustee for another Board for 23 years, I felt my experience and love for Catholic Education could benefit PVNC Catholic students and staff. With the changes in education in Ontario over the years,  I had to be involved in the discussions, challenges and controversies to ensure our system was protected.

What have you found most rewarding about serving your school communities?
Being present and involved in our school communities allows me to see first hand how our students and staff live our faith daily in all aspects of Catholic education.

What has been a memorable or proud moment during your time as a PVNC Catholic trustee?
Witnessing the power of a faith community especially during times of struggle. We are a system with a difference and it shows. Celebrating the excellence and accomplishments of our students is most rewarding for me.

What do you love most about the specific community you serve?
The community I serve definitely involves the three pillars of Catholic Education, our Parish,  home and schools. They work together to provide the best Catholic education for our students in a faith filled environment. It is a tribute to our Catholic teachers, chaplains, school administrators and parents to witness our students living and practicing their faith in and outside of the classroom.

Tell us one fun or surprising fact about yourself.
I wanted to join the convent, be a nun and teach elementary students. While my career path took a complete 180°, I believe my desire to help others has remained the same. Besides, I don’t think the convent was ready for me! 🙂
