St. Peter CSS student wins two prestigious community awards
Reese Cowan, a Grade 10 student at St. Peter Catholic Secondary School, has received two prestigious awards through her community and Air Cadets program. She was awarded the Royal Canadian Legion Cadet Medal of Excellence, one of the highest national medals a cadet can achieve.
Additionally, Cowan was honoured with the Murray Whetung Community Service Award. This award commemorates Murray Whetung, a member of Curve Lake First Nations who served valiantly in WWII despite being exempt from conscription. Given the proximity of the 534 Royal Canadian Air Cadets, 112 Sea Cadets, and the 2672 Hastings & Prince Edward Regt Royal Canadian Army Corps squadrons to Curve Lake First Nations and Murray’s home, these squadrons were exclusively chosen to award this honour in its inaugural year. Cowan holds the distinction of being the first Royal Canadian Air Cadet to receive this prestigious recognition.
