On April 25, St. Mary Catholic Secondary School in Cobourg came alive with music, laughter, and connection as it hosted the second annual Spring Fling Dance—an event dedicated to celebrating students in the Learning for Living pathway.

Students from Cobourg Collegiate Institute and East Northumberland Secondary School, within the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board, joined their peers at St. Mary CSS for an afternoon filled with performances, games, and community spirit.

The event featured lively showcases from the school’s Dance Team and girls’ choir, while interactive games and cooperative activities—organized by the Athletic Council and Student Council.

The dance also offered students an opportunity to build friendships, express themselves, and be recognized for their unique strengths.

“When we focus on a student’s strengths and their need for community, we create a space where every student feels seen, valued, and empowered to shine,” said Nicole Gibson, Teacher Lead for the St. Mary CSS Student Council.

The Learning for Living program emphasizes practical life skills like cooking, shopping, literacy, numeracy, and social development.

Events such as the Spring Fling Dance showcase the program’s spirit of inclusion and the school’s commitment to celebrating every learner.
