Tutoring Support Update
In April, the Ministry of Education released a comprehensive plan to strengthen learning recovery in language and math for the students of Ontario. One of the key pillars of that plan was a focus on tutoring and the Ministry provided school boards with targeted funding to achieve this goal.
As a school board, we have been offering a variety of Board-administered tutoring opportunities for our students inside school. To date, we are proud to say more than 5,000 students have been accessing tutoring supports during and after school hours since the beginning of April.
We have also been covering the cost of tutoring services for families who are supporting their children through recognized external tutoring companies outside school. We had originally intended to support families accessing external tutoring companies until the end of July.
Due to the popularity of this external tutoring support program, we have exceeded our ministry funding. As such, support for families accessing external tutoring companies will expire as of June 30, 2022.
We will continue to cover the cost of external tutoring services until June 30, 2022, after which time, families will be responsible for any external tutoring costs.
We plan to continue to support school-based tutoring when students return to school next fall and will provide families with more information about available school tutoring support in Fall 2022.
