The awards were presented at the 38th annual Father Patrick Fogarty Awards Dinner on Saturday, Oct. 26.

One student from each of the six secondary schools within the Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington (PVNC) Catholic District School Board won the prestigious Catholic Student Leadership Award in Toronto in late October.

The award winners are Holly Heuchert of Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School in Peterborough, Neave Alderson of St. Peter Catholic Secondary School in Peterborough, Rachel Goodhand of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School in Lindsay, Grace Bishop of Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School in Courtice, Ethan Deryaw of St. Mary Catholic Secondary School in Cobourg and Michael Gomes of St. Stephen Catholic Secondary School in Bowmanville.

“I am incredibly proud of each of these students. Their achievements embody the values that are at the heart of Catholic education and reflect their commitment to faith, academic excellence and community service,”  said Stephen O’Sullivan, Director of Education.

The Catholic Student Award is a unique opportunity for the Catholic education community to recognize and celebrate the contributions of Catholic youth.

The award is also a tribute to the positive influence, inspiration and dedication of Catholic teachers, chaplains, school administrators and the student’s parents.

The award and gala dinner were presented by the Catholic Education Foundation of Ontario (CEFO).
