About 170 Grade 7 and 8 girls from PVNC elementary schools took part in the launch of #FemSteamPtbo at Fleming College on Thursday, Oct, 10, a new initiative with the aim of improving the awareness and resources to young females in the Greater Peterborough region regarding education & career options in STEAM and Skill Trades by collaborating with all interested parties.

Our students got the chance to tour the college’s Skilled Trades Centre and were introduced to five young women under 30 working in new Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics careers.

The vision of the event was to move the dial on girls entering postsecondary studies in STEAM.

Dr. Roberta Bondar, the first Canadian woman and the world’s first neurologist in space, provided the keynote presentation, inspiring the students with anecdotes from her time in space and encouraging them to find their own STEAM skillset.
