PVNC Catholic’s Derek Abrams named Educator of the Year by Junior Achievement Northern and Eastern Ontario

Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington (PVNC) Catholic District School Board is proud to announce that Derek Abrams, Principal of Adult & Continuing Education, has been recognized as Educator of the Year by Junior Achievement Northern and Eastern Ontario (JA NEO).

The award recognizes Abrams’ outstanding leadership and commitment to creating meaningful learning opportunities that help students explore career pathways, develop workplace skills, and build confidence in their future aspirations.

Abrams was honoured during the JA NEO Hall of Fame event on June 4. He was presented the award by Michelle Belair of the JA NEO Board of Directors.

In presenting the award, JA NEO highlighted Abrams’ contributions to programs such as World of Choices, Fem STEAM, and other experiential learning initiatives. Through his leadership and collaboration, thousands of students across PVNC Catholic have been able to engage with industry professionals, explore potential career paths, and gain valuable insights into the world of work.

JA NEO noted that while many people see the success of these programs, Abrams’ impact often takes place behind the scenes. He was recognized as a connector, problem solver, and champion for students who works tirelessly to remove barriers and ensure opportunities are accessible to as many young people as possible.

“I am truly humbled by this recognition, and I offer my most gracious thanks to Junior Achievement for such a distinct honour. Simply having the opportunity to collaborate with such a passionate, dedicated organization—one that works tirelessly to help students learn, grow, and reach their full potential—is a rewarding experience in its own right,” said Abrams. “To be formally recognized by them is a true honor. I am blessed to share this milestone with the wonderful Student Success team at PVNC Catholic, with whom I get to work with every day.” 

Through his work in Continuing Education and Student Success, Abrams has played a key role in expanding experiential learning opportunities across PVNC Catholic, helping students make meaningful connections between classroom learning and future careers.
