PVNC Catholic hosts special education course and networking session for administrators with focus on Indigenous student support
Jan. 27, 2025
On Friday (Jan. 24, 2025), aspiring leaders and administrators participating in the Catholic Principals’ Council of Ontario (CPCO) Special Education Course for Administrators gathered at the Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington (PVNC) Catholic District School Board’s Catholic Education Centre for a special networking session aimed at enhancing their understanding of supports available to Indigenous students and families.
Several local community agencies were present to share information and resources, fostering collaboration between the Board and Indigenous student and family support networks.
This initiative underscores PVNC Catholic’s commitment to establishing and strengthening relationships with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples, and to incorporate the history and world views of Indigenous peoples throughout the Board.
PVNC Catholic recognizes the importance of, and support for, ongoing education on anti-Indigenous racism for all employee groups, and the particular role of school administrators in creating identity-affirming Catholic schools focused on inclusive and culturally responsive learning environments for Indigenous students and families.
We are committed to engaging with Indigenous partners in Indigenous education implementation and planning, which includes using data to identify and remove barriers to achievement and well-being.
Administrators are focused on developing strategies to engage with Indigenous students, parents, guardians, and caregivers in the school community who are under-represented as a result of systemic exclusion.
