PVNC Catholic hosting parent/guardian engagement night: Supporting Your Child in Learning Mathematics

Math@Home: Empowering Parents, Enriching Minds

The Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington (PVNC) Catholic District School Board is pleased to offer a three-part engagement series to empower parents/guardians to foster math learning at home. 

This parent/guardian outreach is part of the Board’s Math Achievement Action Plan to boost math support inside and outside the classroom. The virtual sessions, which are free and open to any parent/guardian who registers, will take place in November, February and April.

Session 1 – Thursday, November 9, 2023 – 6 to 7 p.m.

Topic: Supporting Your Child in Learning Mathematics 

Target Audience: Parents of Students in Grades 1-8

This session will be led by Dr. Christine Suurtamm, Professor Emeritus of Mathematics Education at Ottawa University. It will help parents understand how children learn math and how to develop a positive mindset about mathematics. Parents will receive tips, strategies and resources on how to best support their child with math homework and how to develop a positive “mathitude”.
