PVNC beginning the 2020-2021 school year with a staggered start for all students

We know you have been awaiting more details on the start of school and we thank you for your patience.
Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington (PVNC) Catholic District School Board will begin the 2020-2021 school year with a staggered entry for all students. Details are shared below.
We know that for some families, a staggered start creates challenges, but we do feel a gradual start to the year will benefit our staff and students greatly.
This will give our administrators and educators more time to prepare the school for enhanced safety measures, our educators much needed time to organize their classrooms and it will allow students to re-enter the classroom gradually to get adjusted to the new school routines.
As a Board, we also require more time to reorganize transportation services and to prepare and staff the new Virtual School for remote learners.
New start dates for 2020-2021 school year for in-school learners
Elementary:
- Students whose surnames begin with the letters A – K will attend school on Thursday, Sept. 10 and Monday, Sept. 14.
- Students whose surnames begin with the letters L – Z will attend school on Friday, Sept. 11 and Tuesday, Sept. 15.
Secondary:
- Students in Grade 9 will attend Thursday, Sept. 10 and Tuesday, Sept. 15.
- Students in Grade 10 will attend Friday, Sept. 11 and Tuesday, Sept. 15.
- Students in Grades 11 & 12 will attend Monday, Sept. 14 and Tuesday, Sept. 15.
All students at PVNC will begin full attendance on Wednesday, Sept. 16.

Individual schools may determine a different staggered entry schedule for first year Kindergarten students (JK). These dates will be communicated to JK families at the school level. Elementary schools reopen to staff on Aug. 31.

Focus on connecting with families and preparing for online learning
- Tuesday, September 8 – Teacher planning and preparation for online learning
- Wednesday, September 9 – Teachers contact with families to provide class placement and information
- Thursday, September 10 – Orientation of students whose surnames begin with the letters A – K, Grades K – 8
- Friday, September 11 – Orientation of students whose surnames begin with the letters L- Z, Grades, K – 8
- Monday, September 14 – Orientation of students whose surnames begin with the letters A – K, Grades K – 8
- Tuesday, September 15 – Orientation of students whose surnames begin with the letters L – Z, Grades K – 8
- Wednesday, September 16 – All students in full class
Orientation to virtual learning. Educators will focus on community building, supporting health and wellness, reviewing expectations, and supporting online learning on our educational platforms.

- September 10 – Period 1 course – Orientation of students whose surnames begin with the letters A – K, Gr. 9 -12
- September 11 – Period 2 course – Orientation of students whose surnames begin with the letters A – K, Gr. 9 – 12
- September 14 – Period 1 course – Orientation of students whose surnames begin with the letters L – Z, Gr. 9 – 12
- September 15 – Period 2 course – Orientation of students whose surnames begin with the letters L – Z, Gr. 9 – 12
- Wednesday, September 16 – All students Period 1 Class
