Important Update: Changes to Student Transportation Eligibility

Apr. 30, 2025

The Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington (PVNC) Catholic District School Board is advising of important changes to student transportation eligibility that will take effect for the 2025-2026 school year.

Starting next September, the eligibility distance for Board-provided transportation will be updated to 1.6 kilometres for all students in Kindergarten through Grade 8.

As a result of this change, students who live less than 1.6 kilometres from their school will no longer qualify for Board-provided transportation.

Affected families have been notified of this change.

To confirm if your address information is correct, please go to www.stsco.ca and log into the Parent Portal. Once logged in, you can view the address on file at the school; if the address is incorrect, please contact the student’s school to have it updated.

PVNC Catholic is providing families with this advance notification that a child within their households will no longer qualify for school bus transportation so that they can make the appropriate arrangements for their child to travel to and from school next school year.

These updates to our transportation eligibility more closely align our transportation policies with Ministry of Education guidelines and the practices of neighbouring school boards, with whom we share busing routes. They are necessary to help manage transportation costs and ensure that our limited available funding is used as efficiently as possible.

We understand that this change may require adjustments for families, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we move forward.

If you have any questions regarding the policy change, please contact the PVNC Catholic by email at [email protected]. If you have questions concerning the annual transition of your child’s eligibility, please contact STSCO at [email protected] or by phone at (705) 748-5500 or 1-800-757-0307.
