Everyday Heroes: Sarah Prins, Angela Richardson, Leeann Gifford, and Alyssa Timms

We are honoured to present this week’s Everyday Heroes for the 2023/24 school year.

Our everyday heroes are the epitome of compassion, devotion and care, transforming everyday tasks into extraordinary impacts.

Their subtle yet powerful actions not only elevate the experiences of colleagues but also enrich the lives of the students we proudly serve. They are more than just supportive adults or empathetic peers; they are the vibrant pulse of our educational community, profoundly touching the lives of all they encounter.

Our everyday heroes come in all forms, quietly making a difference in our schools and board offices, yet very often they overlook or downplay their own actions.

This week we are celebrating Sarah Prins, Angela Richardson, Leeann Gifford, and Alyssa Timms.

Sarah Prins

Sarah Prins Sarah is an EA at Holy Family CES. Sarah was nominated by a colleague, who said:

“In the bustling halls of our school, amidst the laughter, learning, and challenges, there’s a beacon of warmth, wisdom, and unwavering support – our beloved educational assistant, Sarah Prins! Sarah is not just an educational assistant; she is an everyday hero in the eyes of our students. One of Sarah’s greatest gifts is her profound understanding of the needs of those around her. Whether it’s a struggling student in need of a listening ear or a colleague seeking guidance, Sarah is always there with open arms and words of wisdom. Her ability to navigate the complexities of the classroom with grace and compassion sets her apart as a true mentor and role model. It is incredible to witness someone as effortlessly patient and kind as she is. I have personally had the privilege of learning so much from Sarah. Her guidance, support, and friendship have made me a better educator and a better person. Her presence in our school is a gift, and I am grateful for the opportunity to work alongside such a remarkable individual. So Mrs. Prins, Thank you for all that you do, for the lives you touch, and the difference you make each and every day. You are truly a blessing to us all at Holy Family!🌟

Angela Richardson

Her kindness and empathy create a nurturing learning environment where every student feels valued and supported. She goes above and beyond to ensure that each student’s individual needs are met and that they are provided with the necessary tools and encouragement to succeed. Angela imbeds the Catholic Graduate Expectations into her teaching practices. Angela not only imparts knowledge but also inspires her students through experiential learning. Her initiative in planning trips of a lifetime for students at March Break speaks volumes about her dedication to providing enriching educational experiences beyond the classroom. These trips not only broaden students’ horizons but also foster a sense of curiosity, exploration, and cultural understanding. Furthermore, Angela is highly respected among her colleagues and serves as a mentor to other staff members. She has taken on leadership roles within more than one department, including Student Success and was vital member of the school team in the planning of the grade 9 destreamed program. She generously shares her expertise, insights, and best practices, contributing to the professional growth and development of her colleagues. Her collaborative spirit and willingness to support others reflect her outstanding leadership qualities. Angela embodies the Royals motto of Spirit, Strength, Serenity and Service and we are blessed to have her as part of our school community. ”

She goes above and beyond with her compassionate and understanding personality. She is a quick thinker and a substantial problem solver and is an asset to Special Education Services here at PVNCCDSB. Her efforts to advocate for staff and students often can go unrecognized but she makes an immense difference in our schools. Leeann is very knowledgeable and is eager to share to help build student success in our schools. Thank you for all that you do!”

“Alyssa goes above and beyond as a secretary of St Mary CES, and shows kindness in every interaction. Her warm smile greets every student, parent, and staff member who walks through our door. She knows each student and makes everyone feel valued and welcomed. Our students enjoy coming down to the office to see her and Alyssa will always make time for them and make them feel special. Her genuine interest in each student’s well-being creates a sense of belonging and a positive school community. Alyssa is always willing to help out the staff and keeps us all organized. Alyssa is the first person many of us see or talk to when we step in the building. She is quick to help, always ready to share support or a laugh, and brightens the day of everyone in our school community.

We would like to thank Sarah, Angela, Leeann, and Alyssa for their commitment to creating a culture of faith, hope and love to ensure equity and well-being at our board.
