Everyday Heroes: Elaine Harp, Ashley Scott, and Maegan Young
April 10, 2026
We are honoured to present this week’s Everyday Heroes for the 2025-2026 school year.
Our everyday heroes are the epitome of compassion, devotion and care, transforming everyday tasks into extraordinary impacts.
Their subtle yet powerful actions not only elevate the experiences of colleagues but also enrich the lives of the students we proudly serve. They are more than just supportive adults or empathetic peers; they are the vibrant pulse of our educational community, profoundly touching the lives of all they encounter.
Our everyday heroes come in all forms, quietly making a difference in our schools and board offices, yet very often they overlook or downplay their own actions.
This week we are celebrating Elaine Harp, Ashley Scott, and Maegan Young.

Ashley is a Teacher at Holy Family CES in Bowmanville.
Ashley was nominated by a colleague, who said:
“There are good people, there are great people, and there are Rock Stars. Holy Family’s Rock Star is Ashley Scott.
What makes a Rock Star?
Passion. Ashley pours passion and life into everything she does. Her classroom is one that students hope to be in each September as her room is filled with joy and life. Everyone knows something fun and exciting is brewing in Scott’s class.
Energy. Her contagious energy winds its way into the hearts and souls of everyone she comes in contact with. Whether she’s headed to gym class or out for yard duty, her million dollar smile is always there to elevate your mood.
Rock Stars never sleep. Ashley spends countless hours developing and running staff-bonding activities that bring laughter and excitement to the whole school. From the annual Noodle Competition to Ms. Beast games, Olympic Challenge, Pumpkin Hunt and this year’s The Mole, staff wait with anticipation for her next exciting activity! She always has something in the works!
Working in education can have some very challenging days, but our Everyday Hero uplifts everyone around her, staff and students alike. Rock on Ashley!” |
Maegan Young

Maegan is a Secretary at Holy Cross CSS in Peterborough.
Maegan was nominated by a colleague, who said:
“Maegan is an amazing colleague and a true asset to our school. She consistently goes above and beyond to support both staff and students. No matter how busy she is, she never makes anyone feel like they are a burden, and she is always willing to help with a smile. Her reliability and steady presence make our office run smoothly, and we know we can always count on her.
Maegan is friendly, welcoming, and genuinely cares about the people in our building. She knows nearly every student by name, and it’s not uncommon to see students stop by the office just to say hello to her. Those small moments show the kind of connections she builds with students every day.
What makes Maegan truly special is the way she quietly ensures everything gets done. She often takes care of things before anyone else even realizes they need attention. From helping staff coordinate sports excursions and field trips to managing the countless details that keep the school day running smoothly, she handles it all with calm efficiency.
She even manages to make something as dreaded as an on-call feel manageable—she’s probably the only person who can make you almost want to thank her for it. Her kindness, positivity, and dedication do not go unnoticed.
Maegan truly embodies what it means to be an Everyday Hero, and our school is a better place because of her.” |
We would like to thank Elaine, Ashley and Maegan for their commitment to creating a culture of faith, hope and love to ensure equity and well-being at our board.
