Every Student Counts: PVNC Catholic launches Phase 2 of 2024-2025 student census
Jan. 15, 2025
The Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington (PVNC) Catholic District School Board is moving forward with Phase 2 of its 2024-2025 student census as part of its ongoing efforts to create inclusive and equitable learning environments for all students. This phase, which opens today and runs until Sunday, will involve parents/guardians of Kindergarten to Grade 6 students completing the census with or on behalf of their children.
The student census aims to collect identity-based demographic information and perception data in alignment with the Ontario Education Equity Action Plan and the Anti-Racism Act, 2017. The information gathered will help the school board better understand the diverse needs of its students, identify opportunity gaps, and support initiatives aimed at improving learning outcomes and student engagement.
Participation in the survey is voluntary.
Purpose and Benefits
The data collected from the census will assist PVNC Catholic in:
- Improving learning opportunities for all students.
- Supporting diversity within the school community.
- Identifying underserved groups and eliminating barriers to learning.
- Enhancing programs and services to meet the needs of all students.
“Every Student Counts” is a key initiative aimed at ensuring that every student has the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their background. The data will contribute to better strategic planning, curriculum development, and resource allocation.
Phases of Data Collection
- Phase 1 (April-May 2024): Students in Grades 7-12 who had not opted out completed the census during class time.
- Phase 2 (January 2025): Parents/guardians of students in Kindergarten to Grade 6 are asked to complete the survey between January 15-19. This phase also includes new Grade 7 students, who will be given an opportunity to complete the survey in February 2025.
Privacy and Confidentiality
PVNC Catholic assures families that all responses will remain confidential and protected under privacy laws. The data will be securely stored and analyzed to help improve student engagement and achievement. Individual student responses will not be shared, and information will only be reported in summary form to highlight broader community trends and needs.
How to Participate
Parents/guardians will receive instructions on how to complete the census for their children. The survey is voluntary, and families can opt out if they prefer. The questions are age-appropriate, and all responses will be kept confidential.
