COVID-19 cases confirmed at St. Mary CSS in Cobourg
April 2, 2021,
The following letter was sent to the St. Mary Catholic Secondary School community in Cobourg, informing students, families and staff that two individuals at the school have received a positive test result for COVID-19.
As always, the well-being of our students and staff is our top priority. With that in mind, we are letting you know that we have been informed of two confirmed cases of COVID-19 at St. Mary Catholic Secondary School. The identity of the individuals is protected by privacy legislation and will not be shared.
As directed by the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge (HKPR) District Health Unit, we have already dismissed the individuals from school who were known to have been in close contact with the individuals who are ill during their infectious period. Those identified as close contacts will be contacted by HKPR or Public Health Ontario to receive further direction. The individuals who are ill are at home isolating and will return to school when they have recovered.
The school will remain open following the Easter holiday. Staff and students who are NOT directly advised to stay home are deemed low risk and should continue to attend school and self-monitor for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 at the current time.
We continue to ask all students and staff to complete the daily self-assessment for symptoms before arriving at school: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening.
We continue to follow all public health and provincial recommendations, including thorough cleaning and disinfecting of all areas; frequent and proper handwashing by everyone in the building; wearing masks; maintaining physical distancing to the fullest extent possible, and following any other steps directed by the health unit.
We will let families know of any further developments. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us when school resumes following the Easter break.
Sincerely,
Jason Roberts
Principal
