Everyday Heroes: Rizwan Khan, Kristin Manol, and Wendy Cormier
June 19, 2026
We are honoured to present this week’s Everyday Heroes for the 2025-2026 school year.
Our everyday heroes are the epitome of compassion, devotion and care, transforming everyday tasks into extraordinary impacts.
Their subtle yet powerful actions not only elevate the experiences of colleagues but also enrich the lives of the students we proudly serve. They are more than just supportive adults or empathetic peers; they are the vibrant pulse of our educational community, profoundly touching the lives of all they encounter.
Our everyday heroes come in all forms, quietly making a difference in our schools and board offices, yet very often they overlook or downplay their own actions.
This week we are celebrating Rizwan Khan, Kristin Manol, and Wendy Cormier.

Rizwan was nominated by a colleague, who said:
“Riz is an incredible support to both the Special Education department and the system as a whole.
His attention to detail, strong understanding of systems, and ability to navigate complex technical issues make him someone staff consistently turn to for support. No matter the situation, Riz is approachable, thoughtful, and always willing to help work through challenges alongside others. What stands out most is his quiet and genuine way of supporting people without needing recognition for it. He consistently helps staff feel supported and confident when working through technical issues or unfamiliar systems.
His technical knowledge, reliability, and collaborative approach have had a meaningful impact across departments and continue to support the important work being done for students every day.“ |

Wendy is a Special Education Resources Teacher (SERT) at St. Stephen CSS in Bowmanville.
Wendy was nominated by a colleague, who said:
“Wendy has been a bright light in our school for many years.
Her devotion to some of our most vulnerable students is second to none. She not only supports her students with learning new things, she puts immense effort into supporting them with their social and emotional needs as well. The work that she does allows her students to feel fully supported as individuals and helps them to live their best and fullest lives.
She is always looking for new and enriching things to bring to her classroom. Her work has changed the lives of many students for the better, supporting them through their high school experience and setting up their next steps for their transition out of high school and on to the big things their futures hold. Her hard work and dedication has allowed students to succeed and reach their full potential within our school walls and in their lives within the community.
Wendy is not only amazing with students, she is also an amazing team member to work along side. Her ability to listen and help solve any issues that may arise for the team she works with is wonderful. When things get tough, she is always there to lend a helping hand and support others. She is well liked by students and staff alike.
It is clear to see the difference that she makes on the smiling faces of her students and the pride and joy she shows when one of them has made new connections with peers or met a goal that they have set for themselves. Wendy is a joy to be around, her actions and amazing attitude truly make her and everyday hero. “ |
We would like to thank Rizwan, Kristin, and Wendy for their commitment to creating a culture of faith, hope and love to ensure equity and well-being at our board.
