Grades 3-8 Students Prove Success is All in the Numbers at Annual Math Olympics

Four students wearing green work on math problems together at a competition in a school gym.

From high-speed multiplication to complex logic puzzles, the atmosphere was a perfect “plus” as students from across the region gathered for the annual PVNC Catholic Math Olympics.

This year, the focus was squarely on our Mathletes, who arrived ready to subtract the doubt and multiply the fun.

The May 5th event, hosted by our PVNC Catholic Math Team, transformed the Catholic Education Centre and Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School into a hub of high-stakes problem solving.

The day was designed to show that when it comes to student success, math is a team sport.

The Mathletes tackled a variety of challenges that tested every variable of their skills:

  • The Skills Challenge: A gauntlet of puzzles designed to push critical thinking to the limit.
  • Probability & Strategy: Fast-paced dice games where Mathletes calculated risks in real-time.
  • Number Hive: A buzzing multiplication challenge that rewarded speed and precision.
  • Spatial Reasoning: The legendary estimation jar, where students used their best formulas to guess the coin count.

Congratulations to all of our Mathletes! The results of the competition are as follows:
