PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

The school provides a Catholic faith-based education in accordance with the Institute for Catholic Education Catholic School Graduate Expectations and the Ontario Provincial Curriculum expectations from Grades 4 to 8 The English program runs from Grades 4 to 8 currently. French Immersion for Port Hope students is offered in Cobourg.

Meetings are held at 6:15 p.m. in the library of St. Anthony’s School or at the Church of our Lady of Mercy on the 4th Thursday of the month. The role of the Catholic School Council is to work in cooperation with the school staff’s efforts to improve student learning and achievement. The Catholic School Council has already committed to bringing in "Scientists in School" for all students in grades 4 - 8.

HIGHLIGHTS OF CATHOLIC SCHOOL ACHIEVEMENT:

# Living Faith: Involvement in Social Justice Initiatives in community - i.e. Operation Christmas Child, monthly Masses, daily prayers and reflection, Peer Ministry, close partnership with School Council, our Primary and Secondary feeder schools, as well as an active and strong Catholic School Council. Each year our school is a strong presence at the Remembrance Day ceremony at the Port Hope Cenotaph, as well as being well represented at the Port Hope Fall Fair.
# Excellence in Learning: The teaching staff at St. Anthony’s believe in the concept of continuous improvement. The staff will work cooperatively with Board personnel and their colleagues to develop teaching strategies to implement the Ontario Curriculum. The staff will continue to incorporate Gospel values into the life of St. Anthony’s School.
# Athletics: Cross country, soccer, volleyball, basketball, track & field, curling, baseball, house league.
# Social Justice: The St. Anthony’s School community have formed partnerships with the following organizations to support our own community and those around the world: Canadian Red Cross, Operation Christmas Child, Terry Fox Foundation, The United Way, Community Care Port Hope, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Northumberland Food for Thought and local Parish initiatives.

OUR PRIDE:

Did you know that... St. Anthony’s supports Terry Fox, Big Brothers, Operation Christmas Child, The Giving Tree, Cops for Cancer and United Way throughout the year. St. Anthony's runs food drives twice a year to help out our local communities. St. Anthony's is particularly proud of our strong parent partnership as well as our partnership with Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. We have 17 members on our Catholic School Council, including our priest, Father Randy Foster. We are currently working on a Parent Resource Centre within the school.

St. Anthony’s dedicated staff offers 16 co-curricular activities to students - balancing academics and athletic opportunities.

St. Anthony’s boasts 4 Smart Boards and a wireless Computer Lab.

St. Anthony’s operates a daily Homework Club to assist students and allow them access to computers.
