School Year Calendar
School Boards are required to prepare, adopt, and submit to the Ministry of Education, on or before May 1st of each year, the school year calendar(s) to be followed in the next school year.
The school year calendars must be completed in accordance with the Education Act and Regulation 304, School Year Calendar. Where a Board wishes to adopt a school year calendar that is different from the requirements of the regulation, the Board must submit the proposed school year calendar to the Ministry of Education for approval on or before March 1st of the preceding school year.
The regular school year is the period between September 1 and June 30. The school year includes a minimum of 192 school days of which up to 6 days may be designated by the Board as professional activity days and the remaining days are deemed instructional days. A Board may designate up to 10 instructional days as examination days.
